These are really interesting paper trails of what was happening behind the scenes, as we all were taught to become kosher on the pews of St. Johns...all women...with our little notebooks, desperately trying to get it right.
It brings back a lot of memories. I was told that the Lutherans kicked us out, but in reading all this correspondence, it seems that the Lutherans tried hard to reach out to St Johns.
Maybe dragging out the process of the Lutherans finally giving up, allowed us to stay in the church paid by Lutherans, as we practiced another religion.
We were snobs....looking down at the old timers who didn't want it to change from a Lutheran Church to a Messianic Church. I really don't remember having any compassion for those people, because they so clearly did not see the true light of Jack's words.
I am ashamed of my and our self righteousness. We just took over, particularly the teens and young adults, singing, dancing, chanting, prayer partnering, and super evangelizing...everywhere. College, work, relatives, it didn't matter, it was our mission. I didn't realize that the obvious truth was right in front of me...we were building a very large bank account.
And there were evangelical churches down the block. Have you heard of Jessicca Hahn? She was seduced by some priest of another holy roller type of tent revival group.
Just reading this brought me back in to that church.....the pews...the excitement and fear, every time Jack was going to get up at the pulpit. We were always on an emotional roller coaster....he took us up and down, throughout the service....we were grateful to still be included and not cast away, by the time he stopped talking.
It got worse when we started in East Meadow on Saturday nights.
Thank you for finding this old correspondence. I think it may be of interest from an archival point of view for current family members, and a historical reminder to all of us, that we were such sheep.
